A Quick Hearing Self-Test

Hearing loss usually develops so gradually that the person often doesn't realize he or she has a hearing loss. For a quick (and non-scientific) self-check of your own hearing, answer the following questions:

  1. Do you sometimes feel "I can hear but I can't understand"?
  2. Do many of your friends and family seem to mumble?
  3. Do family members complain about having to repeat themselves?
  4. Do family members complain that the television is too loud?
  5. Do you frequently have difficulty hearing in restaurants?
  6. Do you find it more difficult to understand women's and children's voices?

A "yes" answer to three or more of these questions suggests it's time for a hearing check-up!
